Hinter dem sperrigen Titel "Bloodbrothers II – A Compilation of Recordings by Rock/Metal Bands From Cyprus" verbirgt sich eine Zusammenstellung des Labels Pitch Black Records, die Bands und Künstler aus dem Heimatland der Plattenfirma genauer beleuchtet. Es ist wohl nicht überraschend, dass einige davon auch sonst bei Pitch Black unter Vertrag stehen. Aber auch über das deutsche Label Pure Steel fand schon manche zyprische Band den Weg nach Mitteleuropa.
Der Metal-Markt in Zypern ist breiter gefächert, als man annehmen könnte. Von einem Metal-Entwicklungsland ist der kleine Inselstaat inzwischen weit entfernt. Einige Bands konnten sich auch schon international etablieren. Dazu gehören sicherlich WINTER'S VERGE, ARRAYAN PATH oder LETHAL SAINT, die uns auf der Compilation auch alle begegnen. Insgesamt 18 Tracks sind auf dem Sampler vertreten, die auch stilistisch eine ordentliche Breite abdecken. Von Melodic Metal, über Heavy Metal, Power Metal, Melodic Death Metal, Black Metal, Speed Metal, NWoBHM, Alternative Rock, Post Rock, Hard Rock bis hin zu dem psychedelischen Rock einer Band mit dem ulkigen Namen DIE WITZELSUCHTS reicht der Genre-Mix.
Und ich muss sagen, dass ausnahmslos alle 18 Truppen hier eine gute Figur abgeben. Obwohl sich manche Künstler sogar noch im Demo-Status befinden, hat ihre Musik Potential. Am besten gefallen mir die Beiträge von ARRAYAN PATH, LETHAL SAINT, SOLITARY SABRED, ASTONOMIKON und BLYND. Doch beweisen alle Bands, dass sie sowohl die handwerklichen wie auch kompositorischen Fähigkeiten mitbringen, um auch internationale Standards zu erfüllen. Ich bin jetzt schon gespannt, wie viele der Künstler in Zukunft noch mit ihren Releases in Europa aufsehen erregen können.
"Bloodbrothers II – A Compilation of Recordings by Rock/Metal Bands From Cyprus" ist eine interessante, abwechslungsreiche Compilation, die uns einen tiefen Einblick in die Hard & Heavy-Szene des Inselstaats Zypern gibt und aufzeigt, wieviele vielversprechende Bands es auch dort gibt.
